LYS Review: Fuzzy Mabel

by Aimee on April 4, 2008

This week and next week I shall bring you a twofer. Yes, a yarn shop review AND Yarn Pr0n at the same time. Why? Well, because I have 2 to review and I always buy something from shops when I visit.

A few weeks ago Cristi, May and I headed to Lancaster, SC, to an adorable shop called Fuzzy Mabel.

Located on S Main Street, Fuzzy Mabel is a cute little shop with a LOT of great stuff packed inside. Not to mention she has a FULL online shop and ships, well, everywhere! And her shipping prices are pretty darn low! ($2, $4.95 and FREE! depending on your order amount)

Yeah – if you are looking for Interweave Fall 07, The Knitscene with the Central Park Hoodie or the IK Holiday 2007 – she has them. And more than one of each. What a gold mine. I picked up the knitscene.

Oh – and there is a lot of yarn. Probably the best selection I have ever seen of Knit One, Crochet Too and Fiesta (and she will soon stock Boomerang – or baby boom – after I gushed about it for about an hour).

While there I picked up some of the Knit One, Crochet Too Parfait solids – I plan to knit the Central Park Hoodie in this.

Sadly, this yarn is being discontinued, but they have a great selection in the shop right now – and it is a great price – VERY affordable yarn to buy a sweaters worth of.

The owner is fantastic, she ships anywhere and her internet shop is great. Oh – and the building used to be an insurance agency so there is a vault – which is where the super sale items are! Oh, yeah! Now, she will be moving up the street, so I am guessing that there will not be a vault in the new place, but the clearance section is so great it doesn’t need a vault!

ETA: THE SHOP HAS MOVED!!! She is still on S Main St – 128 now I think. WOOHOO!
While there, I also picked up a book – and the yarn to make a sweater from it.
YPF Silky Wool 003
Now, this isn’t a normal Aimee color, but it sort of talked to me and had to come home.

Thank you, Silky Wool, for convincing me you needed to ne mine.

Oh – one last thing. They have something called the fuzzy dozen. When you buy 12 skeins of any one yarn, the 13th is free. And those 12 – they only have to be the same yarn – you can order any combination of colors you want – but if you know you need a sweaters worth of yarn for your nephew who is 6’5″ – well – you can’t beat a free skein since you know it will take eleventy billion!

I highly recommend this shop. Both online (though I haven’t yet ordered from her online, I plan to when I move) and in person!

It sounds so great. Thanks for sharing. If I remember right isn’t her shop named for her dogs?
